Charlotte woman charged in wreck that killed man
A Charlotte woman has been charged in connection with the July 22 wreck in southwest Charlotte that killed a man, police say.
Lola Porter, 22, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, after she was released from Carolinas Medical Center, police said. Porter was hospitalized after the crash, which took place about 1:35 a.m. July 22 in the 13800 block of Brown-Grier Road, near Sandy Porter Road.
Christopher Gerard Turner, 43, was killed in the single-vehicle wreck.
Porter was driving a 2007 BMW M6 westbound on Brown-Grier Road. As the vehicle approached a curve between Gallant Lane and Griers Ford Drive, police said, the car went off the road and struck a tree. Investigators said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Porter initially was charged with DWI and driving while license revoked. When she got out of CMC about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, she was charged with felony death by vehicle and reckless driving. In addition, police said, Porter was servied two arrest orders and a criminal summons from Cabarrus County.
