1 killed in violent crash following police chase in north Charlotte

Police said they were chasing the car, which was stolen earlier Thursday morning during a carjacking that happened on Bradford Lakes Drive.

When officers spotted the stolen vehicle they tried to get the driver to stop but said he took off. Police said the man started speeding once he turned on West Sugar Creek Road and eventually lost control, hit a light pole and flipped several times.

Police say Darby sped off when an officer tried to pull him over, but lost control and ran off the right side of the road, hitting a utility pole.

Authorities say Darby died at the scene of the wreck.
