Statesville police officer involved in deadly pedestrian crash
STATESVILLE, N.C. —A Statesville police officer in a marked patrol vehicle struck a pedestrian early Saturday morning, officials said. Officials identified the Statesville police officer as Scott Reed. Officials said Reed hit John Cousins Jr,, 59, in the roadway just after midnight near the intersection of South Center and Bell streets.
Statesville officer placed on paid leave after deadly pedestrian crash
Officials said Cousins was crossing the road outside of the intersection and that Reed was driving 30 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Officials said Reed has been placed on paid administrative leave.
