Wadesboro Police are investigating a deadly Christmas Day crash.
Investigators say a Volkswagon driving westbound on Highway 74 in Anson County crossed the line and hit a Dodge Intrepid going eastbound head-on at about 4:01 p.m. Several people were hurt and a baby died.
According to Wadesboro Police, the Hooper family was in the Volkswagon, heading back home to Gaston County after a holiday get-together in Hamlet.
Police said dad Alexander was driving with wife Kelsey in the front passenger seat. Alexander's younger brother Caleb, 19, was in the backseat with baby Alexis.
Investigators don't yet know what caused the Hooper family's Volkswagon to cross the center line and hit the oncoming Dodge.
Baby Alexis was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center but died Christmas night. Officers said Alexis was properly restrained in a car seat when the crash happened.
All three adults were taken to Anson Community Hospital. They were later transferred to CMC Main. Both have been told about their daughter's death.
Alexander Hooper is listed in good condition. Kelsey Hooper is listed as critical, and Caleb Hooper is listed in fair condition.
Police said there were two adults in the Dodge Intrepid. Clay and Saundra Davis are from Richfield, Stanley County. They were headed to a family gathering in Wadesboro when their car was hit.
Clay Davis was taken to Anson Community Hospital and has since been released. Saundra Davis was trapped in the vehicle. After she was freed, she was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. Investigators say she has since been released.
