Victims in Montgomery County crash that killed 2 children identified as Winston-Salem family

Troopers say a stop sign, which was supposed to be at Belford Church Road, was removed and tossed in the nearby woods. It is believed someone hit it and tossed it away.

2 children die in car crash while family drives through Montgomery County area for funeral

"Right as the truck entered the intersection, the car went right in front of it and it was just an explosion," said Dale Capel, an eyewitness to the deadly crash. "When I got to the car, the right side was just tore out. It was terrible."

Capel says moments after hearing the crash, he ran outside. Capel says he noticed the driver of the tractor-trailer swerve 40 yards into a nearby field before running to the injured family. Capel says the truck driver was screaming "I couldn't help it. I couldn't stop."

2 young children killed, pregnant woman injured in Montgomery County crash

The pregnant driver of the car broke her pelvis and the man in the front seat has a concussion and a broken shoulder. The unborn baby survived and the parents are expected to recover.
