Angelica Loj, 23, was killed by tractor-trailer while crossing Highway 801 in Cooleemee, North Carolina

A female pedestrian was killed after being hit by a tractor-trailer Friday afternoon in Cooleemee. Angelica Loj, 23, died around 1:30 p.m. on Highway 801 near Marginal Street and across the street from a convenience store. Loj was walking across the street and ended up walking in front of a tractor-trailer, troopers said. A witness at the convenience store said he heard a loud thump and then saw a body in the road. The crash is still under investigation by troopers and Cooleemee police. The incident was first investigated as a hit and run, but investigators said around 3 p.m. it appears it was just a terrible accident. Speed and alcohol weren't factors in the collision, troopers said.
