A crash involving two tractor-trailers Wednesday morning shut down Interstate 77 south in Surry County, near the weigh station.

One person was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of one of the tractor-trailers fell asleep and collided with another big rig.

At one point, traffic was backed up to mile marker 1 in Virginia. Drivers were being detoured onto US Highway 52.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene because of a fuel spill.
