Randleman HS baseball player in ‘serious’ condition after being hit by car before playoff game

According to Trooper Knox, the student was on the bus with the baseball team leaving for a playoff game in Newport. The teen apparently forgot his cleats, so the bus pulled over in front of the school. The teen ran around the front of the bus and was struck by a vehicle.

The collision was reported at 11:18 a.m. on Tigers Den Road across from the school's baseball field. The unidentified student, who lives in Randleman, was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 15-year-old Randleman High School baseball player was flown to the hospital after being hit by a car next to the school Tuesday morning.

The collision was reported around 11:10 a.m. on Tigers Den Road. The unidentified student was flown to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The student was on the team charter bus heading for a state playoff game against Croatan when he realized he forgot his cleats, school district officials said. The bus pulled over.

The student ran in front of the bus and was hit by a car, school district officials said.

No charges have been filed. The school's athletic director decided to let the team travel to the game, which starts at 7 p.m.
