Deputy saved man from burning car in Gates County fatal crash

According to State Highway Patrol, Travis Andrews Ricks was driving a 2006 Pontiac when the vehicle traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder, the driver over corrected causing the vehicle to travel left and off the roadway. The car then crashed into a tree and caught on fire. Ricks did not survive the crash. His passenger, Gregory Scott, was removed from the vehicle by a deputy before it was engulfed in flames. Scott had serious injuries and was flown to Eastcare Transport helicopter to Vidant Pitt Memorial in Greenville.
