Two killed in wreck on Highway 64 near Pittsboro

Troopers said the wreck happened at about 8:30 p.m. when Taveon Anthony Machen, 18, of Greensboro, failed to yield the right of way when pulling onto the highway from Alex Cockman Road. A Kia SUV traveling east on U.S. 64 hit Machen's car, causing it to spin around. Machen's car came to rest in the median. Machen was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Honda, 18-year-old Kavasia Kasan Hatch, of Pittsboro, was ejected from the car through the rear window and landed on the westbound shoulder of the highway.
