Investigators say Jahlen Williams was crossing Rock Quarry Road with an adult when he was struck by a vehicle.

Jahlen Williams, the 8-year-old boy who was struck by a car Monday morning while crossing Rock Quarry Road, died of his injuries, WakeMed Hospital officials said Wednesday.

The boy had been in critical condition since EMS medics rushed him to the hospital immediately after he was hit by a car that police estimated was traveling 34 mph and was thrown more than 40 feet.

A report from police accident investigators said Jahlen “darted into traffic” while crossing the four-lane road with his family.

A Ford sedan driven by Dantrail Lamont McAllister, 29, of Garner was going north and was unable to stop in time or avoid hitting Jahlen, police said.

Officers filed no charges in the incident.

The report said the accident happened about 350 feet from the Crossline Road intersection at about 11:16 a.m.
