1 person killed in I-40 crash at I-85 split in Orange County
A vehicle crash left one person dead and closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Hillsborough for about two hours on Sunday evening, officials said.
The incident started around 6:15 p.m. and closed the eastbound lanes at the I-85 split, which is mile marker 259.

Officials said a Ford Explorer carrying a female driver and two male passengers was headed north on I-85 near mile marker 163 when it lost control, overcorrected, hit an embankment, overturned three times and ejected the man sitting in the front passenger seat.
