Car driver critically injured in crash with tractor trailer on NC 53 near Burgaw, North Carolina

Serious accident on NC 53 near Burgaw sends two to the hospital

  NC 53 was shut down for approximately three hours while crews worked to clear the scene. The driver of the car was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in critical condition. According to Trooper Gurganus of the State Highway Patrol, a small 4-door car was traveling on New Savannah Road near Burgaw around 10:30 a.m. when the driver ran a stop sign at the intersection with NC 53 and was struck by a tractor-trailer.
