23-year-old woman killed in accident near Monkey Junction
A witness told troopers she saw the car drive into a curve moments before and nearly hit a car head-on. It's believed the woman swerved to avoid that car, went off the road, then lost control when she overcorrected and got back onto the roadway.

She over-corrected and the vehicle spun out before hitting an embankment on the left side of the road, overturning and ejecting her. Troutman said she was not wearing a seat belt and authorities believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
According North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, at around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Antoinette Drive and U.S. 421/Carolina Beach Road near Monkey Junction a woman was westbound on Antoinette Drive when her car went off the road and into a ditch in front of a cemetery. The woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers, who were wearing seatbelts, were in the vehicle at the time and were not injured. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
