19-Month-Old Boy Killed In Single-Vehicle Athens Co. Crash

According to the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash involved one vehicle along state Route 56 in Athens County at about 12:44 p.m. Investigators said a 1999 Nissan pick-up truck was traveling westbound on S.R. 56 when the driver traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
A 19-month-old boy and a 24-year-old man were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Athens County Friday afternoon. According to the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash involved one vehicle along state Route 56 in Athens County at about 12:44 p.m. Investigators said a 1999 Nissan pick-up truck was traveling westbound on S.R. 56 when the driver traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree. A child was restrained in a child safety seat, and the driver was ejected and sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. The child, 19-month-old Tyler H. Young, was pronounced dead. The driver, 24-year-old Darrell J. Young II, was flown to Grant Medical Center by MedFlight. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at about 8:10 p.m. As a result of the crash, the roadway was closed for about 20 minutes. No other details were released, but NBC4 will update as we learn new information.
