According to the Athens post of the State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Chrysler and a 2003 Ford Taurus collided head-on shortly after 9 p.m., and as a result of that crash, a secondary impact occurred with a commercial semi-truck.

McDaniel was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger in Runyon’s vehicle, Jessica C. Salisbury, 39, of Laurelville, later died at an Athens hospital.
