A Port Clinton man died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash Saturday night.
A Port Clinton man died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash Saturday night. According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Leon McCoy Jr., 22, died from his injuries at Cleveland Metro Hospital. The Sandusky post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred at about 11:26 p.m. Saturday in Margaretta Township, Erie County, on Wahl Road near Brunner Road. McCoy was transported to Firelands Hospital by Margaretta EMS after the crash and later flown by Metro LifeFlight to Cleveland Metro Hospital. He was traveling westbound on Wahl Road and failed to negotiate a curve. McCoy’s White 1999 Pontiac Sunfire four-door sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by Galloway Towing, according to the highway patrol. He drove off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, mailbox and tree and then was ejected. The crash remains under investigation, and no citations have been issued yet. Alcohol may have been a factor. McCoy was not wearing a seat belt, according to the highway patrol. Margaretta Fire and EMS and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
