Benjamin M. Morgan, 20, Evelyn M. Hays, 43, killed, and Robert L. Shepherd, 41, injured after their car is struck head-on by pickup on State Highway 82 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma

Two people died in a Mayes County crash Wednesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports. Benjamin M. Morgan, 20, of Peggs, the driver of a car, and passenger Evelyn M. Hays, 43, of Peggs, both died in a head-on collision with a pickup about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday on State Highway 82 about 3.7 miles south of Locust Grove, the patrol reports. Morgan was driving north on SH 82 when a pickup driven south by Cooper S. Day, 47, of Tahlequah, tried to pass another vehicle that was turning right onto a private drive. Day's pickup struck Morgan's car head-on, the patrol reports. Another passenger in Morgan's car, Robert L. Shepherd, 41, of Peggs, was flown to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was treated and released. Everyone wore a seat belt except Day, the patrol reports. Day refused treatment at the scene for a possible leg injury.
