It was raining and police believe that likely played into the accident. But this is certain, the bus was on a curve and skidded into the guardrail and a light pole, went over the embankment and rolled over on its side.

“The first few minutes of a rainstorm rinse out all the oils and everything that’s on the roadway to the top,” Stewart said. “So the first few minutes of a rainstorm are the most dangerous and when it becomes the slickest.”

TPD Corporal Steve Wood says even though the bus was traveling 14 miles under the 65 mph posted limit, 51 mph was still too fast for the driver to negotiate the curve on wet pavement.

A school bus crashed in the 3900 block of south Highway 75, near the Southwest Boulevard bridge. Emergency crews are on the scene. Eight children were reportedly injured. The school bus was coming from Project Accept, and is a Tulsa Public School bus. Wet weather condition are believed to be a factor in this crash. The driver, Nicole Williams, 41, suffered a broken leg, as did one student. More details on this accident will be posted as they emerge.
