The 12-year-old was flown to St. Francis Children Hospital in Tulsa in stable condition with head injuries, while the drivers of the westbound vehicles declined treatment at the scene.
Just before 8 a.m. Monday on State Highway 9 approximately one mile east of Whitefield in Haskell County, a 16 year-old boy from Stigler was driving a 1999 GMC pickup east when he crossed into the westbound lane and struck a semi on its side. According to Oklahoma Highway patrol, both the pickup and the semi left the highway and came to rest in a ditch. The 16-year-old driver was ejected from the pickup and killed, while his 12 year-old passenger was injured and airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where he was last listed in stable condition with a head inury. A third driver struck debris from the wreck and ended up crashing into a ditch as well, but neither that driver, nor the semi semi were injured. Stigler Schools Superintendent Clayton Edwards revealed that the teenager killed was a student at Stigler High School, and the injured 12-year-old attends Stigler Middle School. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
