Oregon State Police are investigating a crash that took the life of a 26-year-old Veneta woman early Monday.

According the Oregon State Police, officers responded at 7:16 a.m. Monday to reports that a southbound four-door Saturn was attempting to turn east from Ellmaker Road onto U.S. 126W when it was struck in the driver’s door by a 2005 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer rig pulling two trailers. The truck pushed the car across the highway and into a ditch on the south side of U.S. 126W.

The woman, who was wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as Aimee Brooke Thomas. The truck was being driven by Carl Mosier, 64, of Brookings. He was not injured. He was also wearing safety restraints.

The highway was closed for three hours. OSP troopers from the Springfield and Florence offices responded to the scene.
