Fatal Crash on Hwy 199 - Josephine County

Preliminary investigation revealed that a GMC Sierra, operated by Donald Uhler (63) of Gold Beach, was southbound on Hwy 199 when for unknown reasons it veered into the northbound lane and collided with a Dodge Ram, operated by Gary Zahniser (65) of Janesville, CA.

Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two car, head-on collision along Highway 199 at milepost 30 near Cave Junction on Friday at approximately 5:53 a.m.

Oregon State Police released a statement on the preliminary investigation and identifying the two victims. According to the agency, 63-year-old Donald Uhler was driving in a GMC Sierra southbound on Highway 199 when he veered into the northbound lane "for unknown reasons."

Hwy. 199 Crash Kills Two

The crash blocked both lanes of traffic on Hwy. 199 and the Highway was closed and a detour was put in place before the roadway was re-opened to traffic several hours later.
