Man killed by train on Sherwood railroad tracks.

A man is dead after he was hit by a train in Sherwood Monday night, according to Washington County Sheriff’s office Sgt. Bob Ray.

A man is dead after he was hit by a train in Sherwood Monday night, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s office.

The man was walking along the railroad tracks near Southwest Tonquin Road and Tonquin Loop around 11:30 p.m. when he was hit, police said.

The Pacific & Western Railroad engineer told investigators he saw the victim and tried to stop, but the train still hit him.

Investigators had not yet identified the man or determined why he was on the tracks.

A major crash team was investigating.
