In a news release, state police said the crash was caused by a driver who took their eyes off the road, crashed into the rear of a second vehicle, causing a chain reaction.

Troopers said the car in which the women were riding, which was driven by Alan Fedorick, 56, of Hazleton, was stopped in the southbound lane to make a turn onto Bermudian Church Road when it was rear-ended by a Jeep driven by Marissa D. Chance, 35, of McSherrystown. Chance had taken her eyes off the road, police said.
