A Tremont woman was killed Sunday afternoon in Schuylkill County, after the car she was driving slid off an icy road and crashed into a tree, state police said. Amanda Minnich, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash off state Route 209 in Tremont Township by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Joseph Pothering, state police said. Amber Smith, 24, of Pine Grove, was a passenger in the same vehicle and was transported to the Hershey Medical Center for treatment. The severity of her injuries was not released by state police. The one-vehicle crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. as Minnich was approaching an area known as Indianhead. Her car slid on slush and ice and the driver’s side door collided with the tree, state police said. Smith was transported to the medical center by ambulance because a medical helicopter could not fly due to poor weather conditions, authorities said.
