Providence police have confirmed a girl who was hit by a RIPTA bus just a short distance from the State House has died from her injuries.

The girl was struck by a RIPTA bus just after 8:30 a.m. on Smith Street in Providence, Rhode Island. Ani Emdjian, 9, was transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital where she later died of her injuries. Traffic in the area of Smith Street and Fran Conway Place had been detoured while police investigate the incident. The driver was identified as Eric Seaberg, 42.
