Trooper say thee accident happened on highway 278 about 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, when the driver of a Chevy pickup truck tried to illegally pass a vehicle, then hit a Suzuki SUV head on.

"If they had a hospital in Barnwell, yes that could have saved a bunch of time because it takes time for a helicopter to get here and have to travel so far," Charles said, "I think if they had one in Barnwell, it could have helped him survive there and I think he would have still been with us."
