Woman charged with felony DUI after fatal Berkeley County wreck

Melanie Maguire, 38, was traveling east on Cooper Store Road outside of Moncks Corner when her 2002 Ford pickup ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned, Highway Patrol reported.

Christopher Hearn, a passenger who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the pickup around 5:25 p.m. Thursday on Cooper Store Road and trapped under the vehicle, according to Bill Salisbury of the Berkeley County Coroner's Office.
The male passenger, Christopher Hearn, who died was partially ejected from the vehicle. Maguire was wearing a seat belt and survived the crash, but is now being held in Berkeley County Jail. Hearn, a 36-year-old Summerville man, died when the pickup truck he was riding in went off a Cooper Store Road in Berkeley County and overturned Thursday. Melanie Renee Maguire, 38, was intoxicated when she ran off the road's right side and hit a ditch, flipping the 2002 Ford pickup. Maguire faces charges of felony driving under the influence with death, which carries a prison sentence of one to 25 years, and driving under suspension. Bail for Maguire had not been set on the two counts.
