Coroner: One dead after moped collides with 18-wheeler in Berkeley County

The exit ramp was shut down as authorities cleared the scene.

Moped driver suffers fatal injuries after hitting truck in Berkeley County

The driver of the moped was not wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries from the crash.

Officials said the moped driver contributed to the accident, but did not say any charges were being filed against the tractor- trailer driver.
Before noon Wednesday, an 18-wheeler driven by Gale Hartman of High Point, North Carolina was exiting I-26 and turning left on Jedburg Road when it collided with a moped that was northbound on Jedburg and ran a red light. The moped driver was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Bill Salisbury. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
