Joseph Polite of North Charleston died at 2 a.m. after the grey 2008 Ford Explorer he was driving east on S.C. Highway 162 went off the right side of the road and struck a tree at around 1:30 a.m. Polite suffered fatal injuries despite wearing a seatbelt.
