Man charged with felony DUI in fatal Dorchester Road accident

The accident had shut down all lanes on Dorchester Road between Cross County Road and the entrance to the Air Force Base. Authorities arrested a 39-year-old man in connection to a fatal accident on Dorchester Road near the Air Force Base that took the life of one person. Police say a Ford Expedition was traveling on Dorchester Road when it struck a Buick head on. The North Charleston Police Department charged Andrew Neil Jeffery of Ridgeville with felony DUI with death. According to police, the driver of the Buick died at the scene, while the driver of the Expedition was transported to Trident Hospital.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jimmy Jones, 79, of Summerville. Jones died at the scene from blunt force trauma to the chest, Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin said.
