A person walking on I-20 west in Lee County was killed Friday night. Highway patrol troopers say the victim was struck by a tractor trailer just before 11 p.m.

A 23-year-old Union County man was struck and killed by a tractor trailer as he walked in the roadway at the 122 mile marker of southbound Interstate 20 in Lee County at 11 p.m. Friday night, the South Carolina Highway Patrol has reported.

Mr. Elston was born in Union, Feb. 28, 1991. He was the son of Joel Elston of Mechanicsville, VA and Ava Gail Moss Hendrix and her husband Donnie and Thomas B. Austin and fiancée Angela Kelly, all of Union.
The highway patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, which occurred at mile marker 122. The driver of the truck was not injured.
