Greenville police say a man has died after stealing a marked patrol car and crashing it into a brick wall.

"As in any case, there is will an internal review of the pursuit and policies associated with this incident to make sure that they are in the best interest of our employees as well as the members of the public," the police department said in a press release.

Driver killed in stolen cruiser suspected of DUI

A pursuit began as police pursued the stolen cruiser down Parkins Mill and onto Verdae, where the Coroner's Office said the suspect lost control of the vehicle and hit a brick pillar.

A police officer was responding to a crash at around 8 p.m. in Greenville when a man involved in the initial accident got into the officer's police cruise and drove off. The cruiser was spotted a short time later and officers pursued it. the man lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into a brick wall. He died at the scene.
