Motorist, attempting to avoid I-85 wreck, killed when car hits tree

A 38-year-old Ladson man was killed in a one-car accident on Interstate 85 Sunday night after he swerved to avoid another collision, went off the highway and struck a tree, authorities said.

A tribute to Fallaw was posted on the department's Facebook page Monday. "Randy was a dedicated firefighter. He was a man you could count on to be there whether it was 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning. He will be missed. Rest well brother."

Randy Joseph Fallaw, of Ladson, was northbound in a 2000 Ford pickup on I-85 in Anderson County Sunday night around 8 p.m. when he attempted to avoid another accident, lost control of his vehicle, ran off the right side of the roadway, and struck a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Fallaw was wearing a seat belt and had to be extracted from his pickup, and was pronounced dead at Greenville Memorial Hospital. The accident occurred at mile marker 36, which is about 2.5 miles north of Piedmont
