The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a Nissan Altima was driving northbound on US 275 early Wednesday when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole. The driver, a 24-year-old Pickens man, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. We'll update this story as more details emerge.
