Authorities say three people died when a small plane crashed between two houses in a neighborhood in Hartsville.

Authorities say three people died when a small plane crashed between two houses in a neighborhood in Hartsville.

The Darlington County coroner confirmed the three deaths. All three people were on the plane, and no one on the ground was injured or killed in the crash, which occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday.

Hardee identified the three victims Sunday as 29-year-old Joseph Melton Loflin II, his father-in-law, 61-year-old George Thomas Rogers, both of Society Hill, and 75-year-old Leslie Bradshaw, of Hartsville. Authorities say the plane was trying to land at the nearby Hartsville Regional Airport.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd says a 911 caller who was a family member or friend reported about 6:40 p.m. that the plane was having problems with its landing gear.

Federal investigators were at the scene Sunday.
