Man riding moped struck, killed by Marion County deputy

The accident happened at about 11:38 a.m. on Gapway Street near U.S. 76, in south Mullins, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner's office.

A man riding a moped died after he was struck by a Marion County deputy in Mullins Wednesday morning, confirmed county Coroner Jerry Richardson. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Kenneth Killingsworth, according to Coroner Richardson. The accident happened at about 11:38 a.m. on Gapway Street near U.S. 76, in south Mullins, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner's office. Gapway Street was shut down Wednesday afternoon while authorities were at the incident. The Florence County Sheriff's Office is investigating, Coroner Richardson confirmed. The victim's body will be taken to the Medical University of South Carolina Thursday morning for an autopsy.
