2 girls killed, 6 hospitalized after highway accident

A South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT team is still investigating the accident. Two teenage girls are dead and six people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident blocked traffic on Highway 17 Business south near Pirateland Campground Tuesday evening, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Hannah Wimberly with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The teenage daughter and niece were killed in the crash, the parents were hospitalized, and their son was in the ICU Tuesday. The driver and two passengers of the Mercedes were also hospitalized, though their condition was not known Wednesday morning.

Dakota's parents and brother also were in the van at the time of the 8 p.m. crash. The brother was in intensive care at Grand Strand Regional Hospital, and his parents and three people who were in the Mercedes also were hospitalized. There conditions were unknown Wednesday. Dakota was a rising sixth-grader at Southern Middle School in Roxboro, while Skyler attended a charter school in Roxboro.

Duson man charged in fatal car wreck in Myrtle Beach

Local media outlets report 47-year-old Neil Joseph DeJean of Duson, Louisiana, is charged with two counts of reckless homicide caused by injury from a vehicle and open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
