Driver accidentally runs into Social Security building in South Memphis.

Despite media reports saying a Social Security building in South Memphis had been burglarized, the incident was instead just a car accident, police said.

A car attempting to park at a Social Security Administration building on South Third Street in South Memphis ended up crashing into the front door.

Memphis Police Department initially confirmed there was a break-in at the social security office, but upon investigating, they determined the crash was an accident.

According to the police report, the driver was at the building to find out what time it opened. When he got out of the car, he did not put the vehicle in park. When he tried to stop the car, instead of hitting the break, the driver said he accidentally hit the accelerator.

The driver was cited for striking a fixed object and for not having insurance.

The car did some damage to the front door of the building and there was damage to the car.
