3 adults critically injured and 8 children sent to hospitals after SUV collides with car and then overturns in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee

Eleven people in a sport utility vehicle were critically injured in a crash that occurred at Berta Road and Shelby Drive on Tuesday night. At least two of the adults were taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis in critical condition. Eight children were taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital where they were being treated and assessed, according to Le Bonheur spokeswoman Sara Burnett. According to Lt. Wayne Cooke of the Memphis Fire Department, the SUV with its 11 passengers was on Shelby Drive when it collided with another vehicle going in the opposite direction. The impact caused the SUV to roll over into a yard. The driver in the other vehicle was uninjured. The fire department dispatched multiple ambulances and emergency crews to the scene. A Memphis Police Department spokeswoman said it was unclear what led to the crash, but speculation indicated that an argument may have been involved. Burnett said names and conditions of the children, who range in age from 8 months to 11 years, would be released when the information was cleared by MPD.
