The wreck was reported about 7:38 a.m. near New Hall Road and was blocking the highway in both directions.

The wreck happened after a maroon-colored Buick, traveling west towards Springfield, crossed the center line and struck a motorcycle head-on. The motorcycle was dragged beneath the car, which then struck a van head-on before leaving the roadway.

The driver of the motorcycle, Wallace E. Young, 40, of Greenbrier, was thrown from the bike during the collision, the report said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
