The Explorer rolled over and was upside down in the roadway, Gibson said.
Joseph's mother, identified as Susan Sensing, was driving the SUV in which Joseph, his 12-year-old brother William Earls, and his stepfather David Wilson were passengers. They were driving on Old Nashville Highway at about 6:30 p.m. when they collided with a pickup truck driven by Luis Hernandez. The crash caused the family's SUV to flip onto its roof, which ejected Joseph Earls, who along with his brother was not wearing a seat belt. The family of four were all injured and taken to the hospital, though Jospeh was eventually pronounced dead. Hernandez was uninjured and arrested for unlicensed driving.
