Police said Tuesday morning that they have responded to 260 crashes since midnight. About 137 of those happened after 7 a.m. Chief Art Acevedo says it appears about 40 wrecks are happening every hour. Two patrol units were reportedly rear-ended.

Austin-Travis County EMS crews reported 100 collisions between 5 a.m. and noon. Around 6:15 a.m. they responded to a 20-car collision on MoPac near Parmer Lane. Most of the wrecks earlier in the morning occurred in Northwest Austin near MoPac and U.S. 183.

Around 7:15 a.m. there was a crash in Leander that involved a school bus hitting a guard rail. Seven students were on board. There have been no reports of injuries.

Round Rock says there were 70 accidents reported between 6 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. At least three of them involved police cars.

Pflugerville police say they have had 23 collisions since 5 a.m.
