4 KILLED IN WRONG-WAY WRECK ON INTERSTATE 35 SOUTH OF AUSTIN

Kyle municipal spokesman Jerry Hendrix says two men, a woman and a baby in a minivan died at the scene shortly after 1 a.m. Two other children in the minivan were hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening. Hendrix says the driver of a Honda Civic traveling in the wrong direction is hospitalized in critical condition.

The deceased were all driving together in a minivan. Additionally, two young children from that minivan were taken to Dell Children's Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. There were three vehicles involved in the wreck: a Honda Civic, a Ford Winstar minivan and a Ford F150 pickup. The man driving the Honda is suspected of going the wrong way on I-35. That individual is in critical condition at an Austin hospital.

A Honda Civic and Ford F-150 pickup were also involved in the crash. The man driving the Honda, identified by police as 22-year-old Wilson Rene Molinares of San Marcos, was taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge in critical condition. Texas State University confirmed to KVUE's Michael Perchick that Molinares is a student.

Authorities say Wilson Molinares, 22, was behind the wheel of the Honda that crashed into a Ford Windstar in the early hours of Feb. 19. The four killed in the minivan were Mexican nationals from Canada.

Wilson Rene Molinares, a 22-year-old from San Marcos, was hospitalized in critical condition. He has been charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter.

Driver of wrong-way crash in Kyle that killed 4 in custody

Police waited until Thursday night to book Molinares into jail because he was seriously injured in the crash. Investigators are waiting on a toxicology report.

Molinares remains in Hays County Jail on a $1 million bond. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.

Molinares, 22, faces four counts of intoxication manslaughter after slamming into a van in the early hours of Feb. 19 and killing four people who were Mexican nationals from Canada.

Molinares will serve 20 years in prison concurrently for three of the four counts of intoxication manslaughter before serving another 20-year sentence on the fourth count, Mau said.

Molinares must serve a minimum of half of his first three counts before being able to start serving time for his fourth count.

Molinares, 22, was sentenced on Dec. 15 to 40 years in prison following a plea deal. After serving 20 years, Molinares becomes eligible for parole.
