The driver eventually drove into traffic around Murfin road and crashed head-on with another vehicle. The driver who fled from deputies was one of the two people who died at the scene.
Third person dies DPS after fatal Lakeway collision
Cortez was flown to University Medical Center Brackenridge with critical injuries, and died on Tuesday.
Police were pursuing a car that did not properly stop at an intersection when it crossed over the center line and collided with oncoming traffic. It is uncertain exactly how many vehicles crashed, but four people were involved in the wreck. Two of them, believed to be a man in his 20's and a woman in her 40's, were dead at the scene of the accident, while one man in his 30's was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. One other person sustained minor injuries but refused treatment. We will add the names of those involved as they are released to the public.
