Four people killed in explosion at Port of Corpus Christ in Corpus Christi, Texas
The explosion happened at about 8 a.m. Friday when the vessel struck a submerged pipeline, according to the Coast Guard, and Port of Corpus Christi officials said it was a propane pipeline.
Coast Guard and salvage crews recovered the bodies after recovering a portion of the dredging vessel Waymon L. Boyd on Monday, according to a U.S. Coast Guard release.
While the incident was initially reported as a pipeline-related explosion and fire, Port of Corpus Christi CEO Sean Strawbridge, speaking at an August 22 press conference, cautioned that it will take a full investigation to identify the precise cause of the explosion.
Burn injury patients flown to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio from the Corpus Christi pipeline explosion received some of the best burn injury care available in the world.
