According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, they received reports around 3:45 a.m. about a wrong-way driver in the southbound lanes on the Hardy Toll Road at I-45 North.

A man and a woman in a Mercedes both died around 4 a.m. when they were hit head-on by a black Dodge Charger driving at more than 100 miles the wrong way in the southbound lane, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It's not yet clear why Bonilla was going the wrong way but DPS said it is investigating to see whether alcohol played a role. Bonilla reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour, a DPS spokesman said.
