At least 1 critical after airplane fire at Arcola airport

ARCOLA, Texas - Texas DPS says officials are on the scene of a small airplane crash and fire in Arcola where at least one person was critically injured. There are unconfirmed reports the person has died. The fire happened at Houston Southwest Airport on McKeever Road before 11 a.m. The fire is now out, and Life Flight is responding to the scene. Flight instructor killed in small plane crash in Arcola

Authorities say a flight student in the process of taking off struck another plane on the ground, killing the instructor. The student has been critically injured and transported by air ambulance to a Houston hospital.The fiery crash happened at about 11am at the Houston Southwest Airport.

Officials say it appears a small aircraft crashed and burned about 10:15 a.m. Monday next to a hangar on a private airport in a small town near Houston. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman the Echo P-92 single-engine aircraft crashed between two parked aircraft and burned on Monday morning at Houston Southwest Airport, about 25 miles southwest of Houston. Trooper Eric Burse of the Texas Department of Public Safety identified the owner of the plane as Houston Light Sport Aviation but said the identities of the two aboard are being withheld until their families can be notified.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR KILLED IN SMALL PLANE CRASH IN ARCOLA

It happened Monday morning at the Houston Southwest airport. Investigators say flight instructor, Johnny Michael Johnson, 68, and student, Nezabian Thomas, 20, had just taken off in a Tecnam P92 Echo Super when they suddenly lost altitude. The plane clipped one plane on the ground then landed on top of another as it burst into flames just outside a hangar at the airport.
