Teen crossing street struck by day care van in southwest Houston

A Sharpstown High School student was seriously injured after being struck by a day care van in southwest Houston Friday morning, according to Houston police.

Investigators don't think 22-year-old driver was speeding or impaired. She was driving 7 to 8 preschool-age children to a daycare when the accident happened.

A 16-year-old Sharpstown High School student was crossing Braeburn Valley Drive, a street near her high school, at about 7:00am when she was hit by a day care van containing several children and seriously injured. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. No one else was hurt in the accident, and as the driver of the van was going the speed limit and it was dark at the time, they will likely not be cited.
