A teenage bicyclist was hit by an on-duty Precinct 3 deputy constable this morning in what authorities are calling an accident. The accident happened at about 6:30am on Gaston and Fry Road. Investigators say a Fort Bend County Precinct 3 deputy constable was on duty, southbound on Gaston, with a green light. According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, a 9th grader at nearby Seven Lakes High School was riding her bike westbound on Fry. She had a red light and detectives say she crossed anyway. They tell us the deputy constable's view may have been obstructed by another vehicle making a turn. He struck the girl on the bike. "He radioed immediately for help," said Maj. Chad Norvell with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. "He got out and helped her as much as he could until the ambulance got here. Fortunately it was very close by our station, so they were able to get here very quickly." The student was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she is listed as stable. Her injuries are believed to be serious, but she is expected to survive. We talked to others in the area who say this intersection can get very busy just before school begins. Seven Lakes High School is about a block away. Authorities say the girl lives another block from here. DPS is investigating this case. Investigators say the deputy constable does not face any charges at this time.
